Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church’s pastoral work in the local community is reflected in a lively and expanding range of regular church-based social activities, and an active group of people who work to help and support the needy, vulnerable and disadvantaged.
On the social side the fortnightly Thursday Tea is popular with all ages, and there is a weekly coffee morning and a Pensioners’ Lunch on the first Tuesday of the month. Each Wednesday during term time is the Play Place Youth Club, from 4.15pm.
We’ve opened up a Craft Room for general use, and on Friday mornings we have Pilates classes as well as Tumble Tots play sessions for young children. There’s also occasional one-off social events like children’s parties, community fun days and music concerts.
On the civic side, the church hosts drop-in clinics with various public authorities and advisers. Croydon Council’s Welfare Rights team hold fortnightly Benefits Advice sessions. Normally no appointment is necessary, just come in. See the Diary panel for times and dates.
With financial hardship and household debt a growing problem, Old Lodge Lane Baptist Church works in partnership with the CAP Croydon South Debt Centre to offer free and effective financial guidance, and we also work closely with Purley Food Hub to help people in crisis who are without food.
In addition we offer free legal consultations and advice, and an advocacy service for vulnerable adults and children.
